Homecoming

The Christian Academy of Carrollton won in thrilling fashion last Thursday night, February 9, with a 68-64 victory over Grace Baptist Church (Union, Kentucky). The eighth win of the year for CAC was of the improbable comeback variety with the Eagles notching nine unanswered points to overcome a 64-59 deficit with less than a minute to play.

Senior guard Isaiah Shelley started the late game-winning charge with a four-point play after he hit a deep three-pointer and drew the foul. Shelley connected on his free throw to pull the Eagles within one at 64-63.

The Eagles’ staunch defense then got the ball back for the offense and put the ball in the reliable hands of the team’s other senior, Josiah Frey, who powered his way through the lane to score on the drive. Frey’s make put the Eagles on top for good at 65-64 with 38 seconds left in regulation.

The Eagles defense then put junior point guard Casey Martin in a position to ice the game down the stretch with three clutch free throws for the 68-64 final.

Frey led the Eagles with 23 points and nine rebounds. Shelley tallied 21 points and added three rebounds. Guard Alex Harmon hit double digits with ten points. Martin finished with seven points on the night, as did forward Nate Newcomer who also claimed four rebounds.
